That silencing phone booths are some of the most demanded products right now is not that hard to understand.
As many as 57% of those who work in open-plan offices find the sound environment disturbing, according to a report from Novus Opinion. It is more common to be disturbed by voices from colleagues than by low-frequency noise from a ventilation system. However, both types of noise can make people stressed and even lead to ill health.
A study conducted by researcher and architect Christina Bodin Danielsson shows that the risk of sick leave was almost twice as high for those who worked in open-plan offices, compared to those who had their own offices. The study lasted for two years and included just over 1,800 people in Sweden.
The disadvantage of own offices is that they do not promote collaboration or social cohesion. Since most offices today are built with open-plan offices, there are good solutions with phone booths to minimize the risks of stress and ill health.
Bodin Danielsson emphasizes that quiet environments are of great importance at work because noise has a particularly negative impact on performance. If you want people to perform at their best, especially if they have tasks that require concentration, then they should not be exposed to unnecessary noise.
